A NOTE FROM Mrs. Udall:

Dear Heritage Families,

In Citizenship, our character pillar for November is gratitude. In the front lobby, there are hundreds of “leaves of gratitude” posted. We hope you have an opportunity to read these when you come to campus. Personally, I am thankful for my colleagues, the scholars we teach, and the families who trust us with their children’s education.

This week our academics, arts, and athletics are on full display. Ask your scholars about the cool things happening in their classes. Come see our fall play and Art Show one day this Thursday – Saturday. Cheer on our cross country and football teams this weekend at state events. It’s a great week to be a Hero.

I’d like to take a few minutes and cover some questions I’ve been receiving and set some expectations for the final weeks of the semester.

  1. Bell Schedule – We have all been patiently enduring the longer bell schedule. We understand it is difficult for everyone and appreciate your patience. I want to clarify the reason for the longer school day. We were informed over the summer that AED is now interpreting a law differently than before. According to the new interpretation, all Heritage Academy campuses were not meeting the required number of instructional hours. Consequently, we extended our school day to meet those requirements.
  2. Next Semester Schedules – Second semester schedules are now live in PowerSchool. Even if scholars aren’t changing any classes, you may notice the day or the time of classes may change. Please make sure and view schedules online prior to January 3. Also, if there is an issue with the second semester schedule, please have your scholar fill out a schedule change request form at the front desk by Thursday, November 18. No requests will be accommodated after this time. Most scholars have already completed this process. This is our “final call” if you will. The reasons for a schedule change include the following:
  • Senior missing a credit for graduation
  • Incorrect course placement (i.e. 7th grade scholar in a 10th grade English course)
  • Missing a class in the schedule (i.e. no English or an empty class period)
  • Medical reasons
  • Unable to pay course fee(s)

3. 2nd Semester Course Fees – Fees will be invoiced in December and all fees for 2nd semester will be due by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3 (first day back). Scholars who have outstanding fees will have their schedules changed that week. We understand it’s an expensive time with the holidays coming up, so please plan ahead.

  1. Finals Week – Finals will be given during the week of December 13. Teachers have been instructed not to give finals early. We appreciate your support with this policy.

With gratitude,

Heidi
