Good Morning Heritage!

We are excited because SCHOOL STARTS TODAY! Many of you have been sending questions our way, so this communication is intended to answer your questions.

When does school start? Today, 8:00 a.m.

What are the passwords for Google Classroom? Scholars will not receive passwords for Google Classroom. Instead, scholars will receive invitation emails from each teacher to join a Google Classroom. The front desk cannot help you get into your Google Classrooms.

Where will those invitations be sent for Google Classrooms? Invitations for Google Classrooms are sent to your scholar’s Heritage email address.

What if I don’t know how to log into my Heritage email address? Each scholar’s email address includes the following firstname.student ID number@hastudents.us. The opening password, if you’ve never logged in before, is Student1.

Where do I find my student ID #? Student ID numbers can be found in PowerSchool. Families were sent emails a few weeks ago informing you of your PowerSchool ID numbers. If you can’t find those or need help with PowerSchool, please call the front desk at 480-969-5641.

How will my scholar take attendance? Scholars will see a daily Google Form posted in each class’s Google Classroom that scholars must complete. Each morning, scholars should take attendance for their 1st period by 8:15 a.m. Attendance for all other classes needs to be submitted by 2:00 p.m. Theoretically, scholars could take attendance for all of their classes in the morning. There is no reason to wait or try and take attendance in “real time.” Teachers will enter daily attendance into PowerSchool by 3:00 p.m.

When will my scholar receive their assignments? Every Monday, all assignments for the week will be posted for all A day classes by 8:00 a.m. Every Tuesday, all assignments for the week will be posted for all B day classes by 8:00 a.m. Please have your scholar check their Google Classrooms every day for communication from their teachers.

When are assignments due? We have streamlined due dates so scholars can stay organized. Any assignments given for an A day class will be due on either Monday or Wednesday by midnight. Any assignments given for a B day class will be Tuesday or Thursday by midnight. . Please have your scholars pay close attention to when assignments are due. Late work will be penalized according to a teacher’s syllabus.

How can I support my scholar with distance learning? Teachers create their Google Sites, so parents can see when scholars’ assignments are due. On each site, there is a calendar connected to a Google classroom which will populate as teachers add assignments. A brief description and the due date will pop up when you click on the assignment. Please check these calendars regularly if you have concerns. Teacher’s Google Sites are linked on our website next to teach teacher’s biography. It is the same place you watched the Welcome Videos from each teacher. If you have not yet visited their Google Sites, please do. They are wonderful!

How can my scholar receive tutoring or help with distance learning? Scholars should communicate quickly and regularly with their teachers through email if they are struggling to understand an assignment. Office hours will also be held every Wednesday and every Thursday for each subject. The schedule is posted below:

Wednesday AND Thursday:

9:00 – 10:00 a.m. math

10:00 – 11:00 a.m. English & history

11:00 – noon science and world languages

1:00 – 2:00 p.m. performing arts

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. athletics

Scholars will receive weekly invitations to join a Google Meet from their teachers to participate in Office Hours. This is optional, but it is also a great way for scholars to connect with their teachers and with each other.

Can I change my child’s schedule? No. We are not making any more schedule changes.

When does Seminary begin? We provide a released time for scholars to participate in Seminary, but we don’t provide instruction or registration for Seminary. Please contact your religious leader for more information.

When will we return to in person learning? As soon as we are allowed . . . we wish we knew, but we don’t.

Thank you for supporting us at Heritage. We have the BEST teachers who are prepared and excited to teach your scholars. We appreciate how patient you’ve been with us as we’ve navigated this unchartered territory.

As always, feel free to reach out with your questions.

Now, let’s start learning!!
