Heritage Academy is pleased to announce the promotion of Coach Benjamin Gwin to the position of Athletic Director of our Mesa Campus, beginning in the Fall 2018-2019 academic year.  He will be replacing Dr. Spencer Bowers who has been serving as our Interim Athletic Director this semester.

Coach Gwin currently works at the Mesa campus as our Algebra 2 Instructor and Varsity Boys Head Basketball Coach.  Coach Gwin came to us just this past year with an intensity to help improve our campus both in the classroom and on the basketball court.  In his new role he will be providing leadership and guidance to all of our athletic programs and working closely with and reporting to Dr. Travis Moore, Principal of Heritage Academy Mesa Campus.

Coach Gwin has been coaching basketball for 20 years and played basketball for Northern Arizona University.  Coach Gwin started coaching varsity basketball in New Mexico and returned to Arizona in 2013. He spent 1 year in San Tan Valley, AZ with Poston Butte High School before moving over to Hamilton High School and taking over the freshman basketball team.  He moved up quickly from freshman coach to assistant varsity coach at Hamilton and helped lay the groundwork for a successful program.

“Athletics has always been my passion and having the opportunity to pass along my knowledge to the Heritage Academy Family is a privilege and blessing.  Athletics is a vital importance that builds character, boosts self confidence, and creates a sense of belonging.” Coach Gwin continued, “athletics builds community within the school, which leads to scholars taking more pride in the school both in motivation and academics.”

Please join us in congratulating Coach Gwin on his new role as the new Athletic Director of Heritage Academy Mesa Campus!
